Fairness & Equity: Students, Teachers & Education

A movement by concerned Hawaii teachers to encourage state leaders to establish and preserve legislation that is fair and equitable to all students, teachers and the greater education system of Hawaii.

What You Can Do

The Put Keiki First movement is about keiki, community and public schools--the resources that make Hawaii the paradise that it is!

The actions by a few dedicated Hawaii teachers may have moved the Board of Education to rethink the Governor's proposal to furlough educators, but we can't let it end there.

1.Share your story. The more the public hears about the drastic, personal impact that Governor Lingle’s proposed state budget revisions will have on students, teachers the more likely they are to speak up on behalf of education.

2. Call or e-mail the Governor. Tell her that investing in Hawaii's education system is an investment in keiki and Hawaii.

3. Write a letter to the editor of your local paper. Lawmakers read their hometown papers to keep abreast of what their constituents are thinking.

  • Assign simple chores at home and make sure your child follows through. Good study habits in school often grown from good habits at home.
